Breast Health Tips for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 19, 2021

Good health is the greatest gift one can have. It's the things we do every day that actively creates good health.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is the link to building immunity. And while we believe prevention is the greatest cure, we are also powerful in our choices with recovery, healing and repair.

Confession...as a lifelong lover of learning, and a perpetual student, forever inspired by our wondrous bodies and the wellness journey, it never fails to amaze me how the body is hardwired to thrive. The reward of pursuing good health is well worth making the effort to embrace the choice of good daily nutrition balanced with the essential nutrients that fuel our bodies, maintain and build immunity, energy levels and abundant health!

Breasts come in all different shapes and sizes and continue to grow and change throughout life. They function differently as we journey from puberty and menstrual cycles, breastfeeding to menopause. Our breasts are very communicative and responsive and are so deserving of our never-ending love, attention and care all throughout our life.

In celebration of our beautiful BREASTS for Breast Cancer Awareness month, we’d love to share with you a few breast health tips that make caring for your breasts as natural as can be.

1. Exercise and breathe for your breasts

Any physical exercise is beneficial for the breasts because it encourages lymph flow through the body. But breathing can have very similar benefits.

Breathing exercises for breast health is a wonderful way to improve lymph flow and encourage healthy breast tissue. Read more about breathing in our recent conscious breathing blog or in this post with Naturopath Tanya Goldie about why breathing works for your breasts as well as your lungs, brain function and energy levels.

2. Massaging your breasts with an aromatherapy blend

A gentle massage is a wonderful way to spend a few moments with yourself, or if you're lucky you can relax and receive a massage from someone special.

Always use a plant-based, preferably cold-pressed oil for the optimal benefits of vitamins and healthy fats in the oil to nourish your skin. A few drops of pure essential oils have more benefits than artificial perfumes or fragrances, without the toxins and synthetic additions.

Essential oils also have the most wonderful healing effects in harmony with our cells and our senses. The massage physically encourages circulation and moves lymph fluids to gently flush your breast tissue and detox as well as stimulating the nervous system, bringing a sense of wellbeing, happiness and encouraging healthy cell function and blood flow.

3. Stay on top of hydration levels

Hydration is key for breast health. Made up of predominantly lymph tissue, our breasts do an amazing job of holding onto toxins, preventing their spread through our body – kind of like a sponge.

It is essential we maintain healthy levels of hydration for optimal breast health, helping to eliminate these toxins from our breast tissue, lymph system and support the kidneys. Read here for effective ways to stay hydrated.

4. Get essential nutrients into your day with a nutrient-dense smoothie

Here's a delicious, juicy recipe we love that is an effective way to hydrate, gently detox and energise your body with essential nutrients.

Ingredients:

Method:

Juice the whole unpeeled apples and add their juice to the rest of the ingredients in a blender. Add ice if you wish or a frozen banana to make your juice thicker, more filling and a frappe style.

Here's why these ingredients are so amazing:

Alkalise Green & Go
This organic, vegan formula of concentrated plant-based nutrition will gently detoxify and hydrate while adding essential minerals, vitamins and phytonutrients back into your system.

Easily digested with beneficial fibre for a healthy gut and digestion. It contains ginger which has a strong reputation for its immune-boosting, anti-cancer properties.

Alkalising, as the name suggests, building life force back into your blood, reducing acidity and energising. Acidity promotes inflammation and the right unhappy environment for dis-ease so it makes sense to support our natural acid/alkaline cycles as much as we can through our everyday diet.

Watermelon
A natural electrolyte, watermelon is rich in vitamin C and lycopene, a super antioxidant and anti-inflammatory (there’s that word again - reducing inflammation is key to good health!).

Also vitamin A, B6 and the mineral potassium, necessary for healthy hydration and function inside our cells.

Apples
Keep the skins on when juicing as discarding the skin removes much of the fibre and the majority of flavonoids - types of antioxidants and are anti-inflammatory.

Preferably organic, but if you can't access organic then always wash thoroughly to remove waxes and sprays.

Apples contain important phytochemicals and are rich in the soluble fibre pectin which helps to improve digestion and gut health plus reduce LDL's (bad cholesterols).

Acai Berry Beautiful
Power-packed with anti-inflammatory carotenoids and antioxidant compounds which research shows have potent anti-cancer benefits, such as preventing cell mutation and tumour growth and protecting DNA. And this blend is simply downright delicious and an easy addition to any smoothie!

Hemp Seeds
Easily digested and a plant-based source of protein and omegas 3 and 6, and GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) with potent anti-inflammatory properties. The presence of inflammation is a signal of the right environment for allergies, toxicity and dis-ease.

Coconut oil
Rich in beneficial medium-chain fatty acids, coconut oil is antiviral and has a positive effect on our immune system and immune responses. Coconut oil improves nutrient absorption, boosts energy, possesses potent antimicrobial properties, and improves energy metabolism in the brain.

Mayella ® Meta Matcha ™
The addition of matcha adds an extra energy boost, so don’t add if you are having this in the evening!

High in natural caffeine, matcha is abundant in the polyphenols and catechins that work with the caffeine for an alert, steady calm and also helps our body to break down and utilise stored energy found in our fat cells. Adding Meta Matcha is a great way to energise your day.

This juicy recipe is overflowing with the below phytochemicals (compounds made by plants):

Flavonoids

Carotenoids

Antioxidants

Anthocyanins

Minerals

Enzymes

= the medicine for an abundantly healthy life.

“Research has shown that some phytochemicals may:
help stop the formation of potential cancer-causing substances (carcinogens) help stop carcinogens from attacking cells, help cells stop and wipe out any cancer-like changes.” - BreastCancer.org
